So my friend David invited me and some other friends up to join him at the 2010 Midlands Wrestling Tournament this past Thursday up at Northwestern University. After a picosecond or two of contemplation, I decided that I would join the crowd. So 6 of us trekked up to Northwestern for a fun night of watching young men fight for dominance.

I was impressed by the skills shown. I've never really watched collegiate wrestling before, and as you can tell by the photos here, there's more than a bit of hotness to be seen here. However, as hot as the bodies were, I was more impressed by what appeared to me to be quite strange machinations of the sport. There's some rather obtuse rules about who gets points for what.

I think I want to watch more of this sport, and to get more pictures. I'm working on getting a much better lens, a low f-number, 200mm focal length lens, at least. I'm trying to snipe some stuff on e-bay, but it's not looking promising. Of course, I'd like the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II IS USM Telephoto Zoom, but at $2000, that's not going to happen. I'm looking for the older model of the same specs on E-bay.

I've put the FULL photo shoot under "Midlands Wrestling Tournament, 2010" under a new photo collection, "Athletic Events". Yes, there's a lot more than the pics I've got cited to the right here. These are just the crème de la crop.

Wrestling... the one sport I really coulda/shoulda done in high school. Ah, well! Great pics :D

The lens I used is the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. Autofocus and image stabilization. That'll account for my hand shake, but won't help with low light slow shot motion blur.

Yah, I know. shallow depth looks really good for sports shots. :)

Hmmm, many fond memories --- and it is addictive :)

I've heard the rules are surprisingly complex, Cripes I wish I was that fit. It takes a lot of flexibility and strength to do all that.
